FortKnox's Journal: Life of FK (& Joey Photoshop link)

Well, I haven't written much of my life, so here's a nice long story to bore you.

I had mentioned before that our house is full (BIL, SIL, 2 nephews). Well, this weekend, they left and are visiting my mother&father-in-law in Maine. They'll be gone for a good 2 weeks. So I get some relax time at home, right?

WRONG!

Work is busy, I am on two projects, both having similar deadlines, so I'm bound to have lotsa overtime this week and next....

And now I got assigned a 'side job' project (which is pretty big on its own) as a favor to some guy (I'm still getting paid). The problem with this '3rd project' is that another guy stepped in and said it'd take 2 weeks to do and he'd have it done in mid-July. Well, this project I think will take 3-6 months to complete (why such a large gap? No requirements or anything, just question/answer sessions), and I'm already 1 month behind the schedule.

So I tell him I'm swamped this week, and now he's worried that I may back out like the original guy. So much for 2 weeks of relaxation in my house......

BTW - I did download ET yesterday, but haven't had a chance to play it. When I get home, my aim is to get a prototype done, then I'll jump into the game (I'll use the name "FortKnox" so if you see me, pop in and say hi).

There's a thing for tracking gaming stats now?

What will they think of next? Perhaps some way of sending electronic messages or something.

Seriously, I never signed up for that stuff, I just like to go and blow up stuff. Yeah, I'm the sneak who gets in near your spawn point and puts tons of mines around, and mines the command posts, and the doors.

Can't see it. Everytime I try to bring it up, it won't display. I think it checks referrers, and if it isn't tripod, it doesn't display.

Let me ask you a question... Do you know of an easy way to put a Java servlet in a wait status? I need to check a database for a value, and if it isn't there, wait 5 seconds then look again, and keep doing that until it is there, or I have looped 12 times (about 1 minute). I have all the loop and db checks working great but my wait is not working properly (Getting IllegalMonitorStateException: current thre

As far as a 'wait' status, I dunno. I don't work much with applets, and my DB stuff is in EJBs and I let the container deal with that type of stuff...

Yeah, I taught myself the servlet stuff, and I'd like to take the class to figure out all the things I'm missing or doing the hard way. I'd also like to take the EJB classes too. Unfortunately we are under budget constraints, so I'll have to wait until next year.
