Journal chia_monkey's Journal: Accountability 5

Time to rant. Doesn't anyone get a little tired of how in today's society, everything is "their fault" and nobody will take responsibility for their actions? "I burned myself, sue McDonalds because they didn't warn me hot coffee is hot".

"My kid is fat, it's not my fault". Well make them go outside and play instead of sitting on their asses all day watching TV and stuffing their faces with greasy food because you're too damn lazy to cook something good.

It's spreading to business...RIAA blames poor sales on MP3s. MPAA blames poor sales on texting. WTF?

It's really sad. Really sad. I've seen it everywhere. Kid's bad behavior is because of school, not poor parenting at home. Actually, I could go on forever about the whole education and child-rearing thing.

Do you think this will stop? Or is it a trend that will continue to get worse? Or will people say "wow...this is getting out of control"?

  • I don't see people wising up anytime soon... it is definitely going to get worse before it gets better, IF, that is.

The problem is two fold. Part of it is the lawyers. When there is money to be made, there is a lawyer there to put the blame on the one with the biggest wallet. The other part is liberalism gone wild. Too many people want to make you feel OK with yourself or your situation, so they put the blame for your own doings elsewhere.
    • It's really a shame. I don't want to have to say "back in my day" (which is really ironic 'cause I'm not that old) but geeze, whatever happened to common sense? I think by blaming everyone else, we as a society are actually dumbing-down ourselves. It used to be, if you took a big gulp of hot coffee and burnt yourself, we'd all say "you dumbass. Why did you do that?" Nowadays, we sue someone because "we didn't know". It's sad. Really sad.

      • I'm only in my mid twenties, and I already see a huge difference from when I was a kid. My parents always tried to teach me to own up to the truth, and being accountable for what I did.

Honesty is usually easier to remember too.
        • Scary, isn't it? I just turned 30 and still think it's sad that if I poked myself in the eye with a spork from KFC, my mom would call me an idiot. Nowadays we sue KFC. It's way too prevalent though...not just in suing people, but also in terms of why we as a society are bloated slobs, why our education system blows, why our kids misbehave, etc. Aye aye aye.
          • Agreed... but unfortunately there doesn't seem much you can do about it. Except maybe vote libertarian... but that won't solve anything on the grand scale.
