Journal Elbereth's Journal: Hot or Not 2
These are brands I trust. I used to trust Sony, but this is new Sony, under new management. The Old Sony never would have marketed cheap crap that breaks one day out of warranty. The New Sony... well... the jury is still out on them.

Whatever you do, don't buy Philips. Blech. Oh, sure, they make perfectly fine products, but you get burned by the customer support every time. Forget about them. It's not worth it. And watch out for HP. HP kind of sucks now. I miss DEC. Fuck you, Compaq.
Yeah, yeah, I know some of them are just OEMs. But ViewSonic monitors really are pretty good.
Might want to watch out for Teac, too...

SuperMicro - server grade mainboards and chassis.
Antec - another nice rack
Abit - learning the zen of overclocking and water cooling.
Hitachi monitors - pull my 814's from my cold dead hands
Plextor & Yamaha, no coasters - years of service.
Matrox millenium - still to nice to leave in a headless server
Adaptec - from 50 pin, Ultra2, Ultra160, to infinity...
HP laserjet 4M+P - still on original toner
Microsoft - say what you want, they make a hell of a mouse.

I've got a G400 and G450 that use under Win2k and XP, respectively. I've also got a few other Matrox (G200, Millennium) video cards that run under Linux. Great stuff. Although, you are perfectly right in chastizing Matrox for their sometimes-on, sometimes-off driver support.
I've got two Antec full tower cases. Love it, love it, love it. Perfect fit with an Asus or Tyan dual processor board.
Slot 2? I still use Slot 1. Haha.
