Journal Fu Ling-Yu's Journal: I am here. 5

I am Fu Ling-Yu, Doctor in Chinese University. I advise on issues of technology to all of University. I am not English teacher, all my teaching is in Chinese, so my English is not too good. Please excuses.

I find Slashdot when recommendation by a student. Slashdot seem to cover important technical issues and questions and I think I can contributation point of view from People Republic of China angle.

    More people contributing points of view from the PRC perspective will be good. The more the merrier.

    What operating systems do the systems you advise about use?
    Windows? (called by many of us here "windoze")
    Macintosh?
    Unix?
    DOS?
    C/PM?
    Linux?

    • Thanks you for welcome! It is interesting to use a technical forum not in my own words! So it is a language gap as well as culture one.

      Sorry, I do not know a "CP/M" DOS is not use in academic or scientific area but common on machines used by normal people. Windows is the same although as you might be aware most of the versions are 'pirated' (stolen copys?) and can be very unreliable. Obviously people need to buy the real things for true security!

      Linux is much appreciated by the world, including People Rep

        Yes, there is much discussion here of how most copies of software and OSes in Asia are illegal.

        Yes, Dragon has gotten good press here on /. I look forward to reading more and seeing it do well.

        Would you say that writing code for Linux is causing more Chinese to learn English, or to get more comfortable with the English that they studied?
        How much attention is paid to comments in code?

    Compared to Mozilla, this Firebird thing is a buggy POS, at least on WinME.
