Journal aWalrus's Journal: It seems I'm becoming a permanent moderator 3

It's been quite a while now that I've had access to moderator points. Lately, though, it seems I'm getting mod points every week. I spend them, and sometimes two days later, I get them again. I find this interesting.

My moderation habits are good, I guess. I do try to stay away from highly modded posts and mod up the ones that stand at 1 or 2, so I read most threads in a discussion. I also have never had an "unfair" metamod, although I have upmodded a lot of very controversial comments. I also focus more on the positive modding. Not because of the "rules" but because they're much more worthy of mod points I think. The question here is: Is anyone else experiencing something like this? I haven't seen anything in Taco's journal about this, but it does seem weird.

  • It seems like I've been getting mod points once a month or less, having 'good' karma, though recently I crossed the threshold into the 'excellent' realm. I wonder if it will become more frequent?

Mod-points seem like a chore to dispense with sometimes, while meta-modding is quick and painless...

I think some moderation should resemble the random post selection format of meta-modding, perhaps with a focus on recent +1's on medium-old stories- so they have a chance to be heard occasionally if they pipe in la
    • That does sound interesting. And yes, it becomes more frequent after a while, depending on your moderation habits, I think.

I've let some mod points expire on two occasions, since I didn't find comments I really wanted to moderate, or didn't have the time... Sucks when you want to and don't have any mod points, though.
    • I've noticed that if you have excellent Karma and meta moderate succesfully you will see a rise in moderation offers.

when I mod I reverse all my filters so I see the -1 stuff on top and ignore anything greater than 3. If you change your preferences when you mod you can see most recent posts first vs oldest which helps distribute things a wee bit as well.
