Journal mcgrew's Journal: . Tea Party Hypocrites 10
Well, well, well. This one's from my own state (even though folks in Chicago think I-80 is Illinois' southern state line). Another "fiscal conservative", a teabagger who demands the US balance its budget and even demands a Constitutional amendment who can't even balance his own budget. The AP says
The freshman congressman's ex-wife, Laura Walsh, filed the claim against him in December as part of their divorce case, saying he owed $117,437 to her and their three children, the Chicago Sun-Times reported in a story published Wednesday. She contends that Walsh loaned his own campaign $35,000 and took international vacations but said he couldn't afford child support payments because he was between jobs or out of work.
Yeah, there's some fiscal responsibility.
I will give him credit for one thing -- none of the newspaper reports nor his Wikipedia page say he's a Christian. Being a tea partier is most decidedly against what Christ taught.
And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute [pay taxes] to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's
If you claim to be Christians, stop bitching about taxes, you hypocrites! Stop voting for these vile men.
The Republicans know that the next election hinges on the economy. If we do well, Obama's a shoe-in. Their only chance of winning the Presidency is to destroy the economy, which I sincerely believe is why they're playing chicken with the debt limit bullshit.
Look, who passed all those pork barrel projects? Congress. Who ran up the defecit? Bush. Who was in power when the unemployment rate went from 4% to 10% and the stock market crashed? Bush. Who started the two expensive wars? Bush. Where were the teabaggers when Bush was in office?
The congressman's alleged financial problems made headlines while he was campaigning last year, when former campaign field director Richard Cape claimed he would "spend, spend, spend uncontrollably." His campaign manager quit and sued for $20,000 in nonpayment, and two other staffers who quit accused him of not properly disclosing a 2008 home foreclosure and traffic citations to the public, taking their grievances public. Walsh also bounced checks, including one to a Republican fundraiser.
A Walsh spokesman at the time called it a smear campaign by disgruntled workers and said the congressman had learned from his financial struggles, including the foreclosure.
To Walsh I say, "Have you no shame, sir?"
As his namesake sings, "I can't complain but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far."

I really hope they're not doing this debt limit shit to ruin the economy. They've basically admitted that they know they have to cave and are doing this for political reasons, I hope they aren't seriously trying to ruin the economy for a better shot at getting in office.

Thst depends on whose taxes you're raising. Right now raising taxes on the middle class, or cutting Social Security of Medicare, would be the absolute worse thing for the economy, but making GE and the oil companies pay taxes, and raising capital gains taxes would be good for the economy, and would help pay for the programs that are sorely needed right now. We could sure use a lot fewer people "investing" in oil futures; that does absoluteoly nothing

Well, the "winning a car from Opra" isn't the norm and besides it is income and I think it should be taxed. The trouble with sales taxes and VAT taxes is they're regressive. A poor person will pay tax on 100% of his income because he has to spend it all, a middle class person a little less, and a rich person far less; money that goes back into the bank or gasoline futures won't be taxed at all.

They were celebrating their power, of course. They thought they were witnessing the start of their new empire, after managing to steal two consecutive presidential elections and force through pretty well everything they wanted.
