Journal stoolpigeon's Journal: Can't Log In from My Laptop 11
I can't log in to slashdot from my laptop. Every browser - and even from a browser running on a vm - it always fails. Not sure why but as long as it persists my posting will be less frequent.
I had that a few days ago (Score:1)

I see, OS wasn't specified though.
The login is as far as I know over https, but then the rest goes over http, so maybe someone chewed on your https traffic.

I completely forgot about the certificate thing. Maybe they're trying to keep you from being logged in with more than one device at a time. And I also notice a lot of places are complaining when you log in from a place or device that is not 'familiar' to them. I get emails about "unusual activity" and have to go through security theater to get back in.
I think they're trying to get a handle on the spammers, but not really trying that hard.

The unusual activity stuff are done by Google and Facebook and co and are very annoying....

Denial of Service? (Score:2)
Are you able to read the site at all or is the problem just at the login? It's possible that there is a denial of service attack somewhere in between and your IP is in a block that has been blacked out from the server or servers that permit logins. One thing you can try with your laptop - move to a different network and see if it follows you. Also, you could try going through a proxy.

Just logging in - I can read the site fine. Although it may be like a few have mentioned above - at the moment I can log in.
