So then, as has happened many times before, it is your faith against the actual facts. You are again choosing to avoid the facts because they don't suit your agenda. I keep seeing people saying the governments number one job is to keep people safe. When did they decide that? I've always thought that their number one job ought to be to keep people free. I really don't want safety at any cost.

Freedom is a subset of safety. You can't have Freedom without reasonable levels of Safety. Just ask the people of Liberia, the world's most corrupt government. They tried to have freedom without safety, but when the rubber meets the road, you can't even get the police to respond to an emergency call without a bribe.
