Journal krugdm's Journal: Is it just me... 2

Regarding the President's speech Wednesday night, is it just me, or is it just flat out arrogance to introduce Bush as "The Leader of the Free World"?

No wonder other countries hate us...

  • But then, the other 'contenders' for that title have various niggling problems holding them back from claiming the title for themselves. For instance :
    • Tony Blair is too firmly logded up against GWB's butt.
    • Jacques Chirac is hampered by his insistence on making speeches in French, and not God's language (everyone know he speaks English!)
    • Nelson Mandela is retired from politics. Oh, and he's African, which could be problematic to some.
    • Pope John Paul II has enough problems staying upright these day. Oh, and there's that small matter of him being head of the Roman Catholic Church, so he's a bit tied up at the moment.

    Any other takers?
  • President Bush is the leader of this country, no question, so the question is: Does the US lead the other [free] nations of the world? I think the answer is yes. Think about it. Almost every other country in the world is complaining right now, saying they oppose the war, but if (when?) we go to war, most of them will step up and support us. That's because they don't want to get on our bad side. When everyone follows you, that makes you the leader.
