It's official - Apple now worth more than Microsoft

  • This one was a day early [slashdot.org]. I was actually forecasting this one over a year in advance in the comments but not the journal. I don't have time to fish the comments out, but they're in there.

This one was as AAPL passed 115% of MSFT [slashdot.org]. They've had some closure since: MSFT was up over AAPL again for a few minutes midday in the past week, but I forget which day. That's probably the last time, too: Microsoft had an ad blitz for everything and Antennagate was still an issue. That's all over now.

    • All good points, and you won't get any argument from me. Anyone who's been reading the minimicrosoft blog [blogspot.com] knows that Microsoft is a sinking ship. Windows Phone 7 is dead before it comes out. That's pretty bad. Ditto with paying people more to use bing than it brings in. And what's up with that name? It sucks. It's the Bing Crosby of search engines.

5 years ago, there was a science fiction short story where someone went into the future, and they were astounded by how well Windows worked. Everything was pe

      • WP7 (the phone biz) is going to be the next of KIN, and nobody is looking forward to Windows 8 except Microsoft, who has Apple Envy [cnet.com]/

I disagree slightly on Windows 8. Windows 7 was a surprisingly damned good product. Normally I'd add on "for something Microsoft made", but that's not needed - it's good. It works. It works well, and it's pretty.

I'm actually looking forward to Windows 8, if they keep the same development teams and processes they used for Windows 7.

As someone who spent the last 3 years of his life working on WP7, I take offense to that. :P

I can guarntee you that in the very least, the native compiler we made for it is top notch! Everyone who has suffered pains of using the native WM compiler in the past (yes it sucked, sorry about that! Wasn't our fault, honest!) can now use a good high quality compiler.

Oh wait. Doh. Nevermind. You can't use it. But it does kick ass, honestly! (Hey n

        • As for games on phones, it's been over-hyped; sure, a very small minority make a killing, but you can't depend on games to sell phones. People still buy a phone because they want a phone. Everything else is just a bonus.

Now one game they COULD have ported to a smartphone and made interesting (especially if they allowed it to interact with other phones as well as other nearby computers) was Flight Simulator. With the built-in motion sensors, that would have been a killer app. You're lost? Break out fligh
