Journal DontLickJesus's Journal: A new way to detect alien life 3

Currently man searches for alien life in a way that often includes speculation and a lot of random data. However, we do have a scientifically accurate way to detect life. In physics, we learn that electron/photons change their behavior based on observation. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfPeprQ7oGc
for and explanation.) So I offer this: How could one construct this test to see if light was observed by an alien race?

A new way to detect alien life

  • Someone, somewhere told me about a sci-fi story set in a universe where humans were the only species whose observation had the power to affect the outcome of an event, and that all the other aliens out there were getting frustrated by their quantum equipment breaking down as our "light cone" got larger and larger and we were able to observe more and more of the universe.

Can't remember anything about the story or its author or even where I heard about it.

  • A note after a bit of thought: Building such a test would require discovery of a double-slit test in nature. My first instinct is to say this might occur due to gravitational lensing, as it's the only occurrence I'm familiar with that we ever observe the doubling effect.
