  • When Michael Moore had a TV show in the early-to-mid-1990s (TV Nation), they did a segment (I didn't see it, but friends told me about it) in which they asked people if they thought street crime or corporate crime was a bigger problem. Most people, of course, thought street crime was a bigger problem. So they showed the statistics, and in terms of dollar value, street crime is of course just an insignificant speck compared to corporate crime. So then they "wondered" (for dramatic and comedic effect) why

    • Oh yeah! Didn't he also try and pitch a Cops-style show for white collar criminals on that episode? Good stuff.
    • People "feel" street crime personally as something that happens to then directly. They will never see the same connection with corporate crime.. Too much separation between the crime and the criminal, who they never see.. And besides, unlike a physical assault, corporate crime is somewhat consensual. To get people to take note and/or actually care, you will need to dramatize the event somewhat. You have to make it personal.. You have to present it as a direct attack upon the person.
