Journal drinkypoo's Journal: Mechwarrior IV Free Released; Mektek.net asplode 8
Having finally secured permission to make the free rerelease of Mechwarrior IV, MekTek put together an incompetent MTX installer (crash!) and then their webserver suffered hardware failure. You can still attempt to download the game via torrent.

I take it they didn't use something like FreeCache (if it's still around), Coral cache, or one of the various FilePlanet, etc. download sites? And if they're paying for bandwidth anyways, use Amazon S3/CloudFront to do the heavy lifting.

It seems like they put very little thought into the distribution itself. The .torrent and an html version were shared directly from their servers. Also the new launcher distributed with the release is widely reputed to be poop. With that said, I have high hopes for the game itself. I'm looking forward to 1080p Mechwarrior IV with more 'mechs than I've ever played with; When Mech IV was still a going commercial concern, modding was very much in its infancy.

I have some old Thrustmaster Mark II throttles, but no non-automotive pedals yet. They seem trivial to build. I have a drill press, MIG welder, and other goodies.
