We all need Jesus!!

  • Christianity that I can believe in

"Christianity", itself, is not the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

    • I did? Eh, waddya gonna do? Branding is everything. For some it is the message. Fight hellfire with hellfire, amIright? It works for Trump, for Wallace, and a couple of other really famous people from the not too distant past. I figure, what the hell... give it whirl.. play the lottery. Get the feet stompin'... Ha-cha-cha-cha!

BTW, nice rapid response there! I'll be sure to call you first if the missiles start flying..

      • In fact, if you're at all steeped in the Acts of the Apostles, you'll know that the original name was "the Way", and the movement members were first termed "Christians" at Antioch.
        • I'm just sticking with your Madison Avenue there. Go with the name you know... But hey, it's your baby. Name it what you want. Still, from all appearances, in your case particularly, what you do inside your church is entirely different from what you practice on the outside. This is assuming they don't preach the same bigotry you do here.

          • from all appearances, in your case particularly, what you do inside your church is entirely different from what you practice on the outside

Nope. Same Gospel. That you go around in circles is inevitable. There is a means of steadying up on the correct course, however. . .

            • So, they preach against equality too? Pity, that... It would be interesting to put the direct question to them, instead of this little jig you do.

              • No, the theological equality of all before God is well-understood, just as hedonistic falsehoods are rejected, irrespective of how pleasurable.
                • You are merely rationalizing the bigotry on the books, and showing it in your acts. We don't need a government established on your (or anybody elses) religion..

Preach the word! Not your hate!

                  • We don't need a government established on your (or anybody elses) religion..

So you privilege the false, secular religion by removing IT from consideration.

and showing it in your acts

When you start with Absolute Truth, and build a positive argument to support your (apparent ) contention that false is the new true, your acts will be convincing. So far, your arguments have been so much twaddle.
I'd love to see an argument that isn't an exercise in avoiding a real existential analysis, accusing me of bigotry, and then declaring victory.
                    Go.

                    • You want to deny equal rights. There is no 'argument' there. You are trying to make an argument to justify simple bigotry.

                    • I'm asking you to show me the development behind your opinion that there is some equivalence here. You're offering nothing but an accusation. Rather telling: you may not actually have an argument here.
Rather, you may be pointing out that the government is over-extended, and attempting to force an equality, in the service of papering over some other lousy policy. And I mean the tax code.
Standing by for more accusations as a substitute for a cogent argument.
                    • You're offering nothing but an accusation.

No, you have spoken up specifically against equal rights for all people. There is no accusation. You freely say it and try to rationalize it every time the subject comes up.

Rather, you may be pointing out that the government is over-extended, and attempting to force an equality, in the service of papering over some other lousy policy.

I am only pointing out your main complaint against equal rights. Your twisty turny stuff is funny, and your phrasing quite revealing.

                    • So, you don't offer any basis for your bigotry accusation, and you laugh at the idea of revisiting the tax code, even while demonstrating an area of glaring inconsistency.
I can only assume you're a guardian of the status quo.
                    • So, you don't offer any basis for your bigotry accusation...

A thousand times I have. And you point them out yourself frequently. So, to run in your hamster wheel once again: You wish to deny a certain group of people their rights to a contract. That is bigotry. An assertion of demographic supremacy. It is no different than all the other Jim Crow laws we had in the past. There, that's a thousand and one. If you wish to continue your denials ad infinitum, that shall be your business. You can call it what you

                    • I'm asking for a philosophical proof that you're more than a simple accuser. Stand and deliver, or not.

You wish to deny a certain group of people their rights to a contract.

Untrue. You cannot name a specific context, people, or right which I have sought to deny anyone at any time.
But don't let facts interrupt your bullying effort, which is pretty much how I view this soapbox of yours.

                    • Equality in marriage (the right to drink from the water fountain that's for *whites only*), you goof!

If you are against allowing homosexual couples and individuals exactly the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples and individuals, you are a bigot! You are abusing your demographic supremacy, which, thankfully you are losing, if very slowly. I wouldn't mind speeding things up a little. It cannot be more black and white! I will assume it's so natural you are just unaware, and choose to remain that

                    • If you are against allowing homosexual couples and individuals exactly the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples and individuals, you are a bigot!

Exactly the same? Exactly the same? They have exactly the same opportunity to do exactly the same things that any heterosexual couple does.
I understand that you're exercising "the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption [nytimes.com]".
I understand that, mathematically, you're saying 2+2=5, for small values of 5, and if I don't toe your line, => I <= am some kind of socially reprehensible bigot, and I'm supposed to feel all bad and stuff about being Politically Incorrect, and any evil things that happen t

                    • turtles, baby.. That's all you're givin' me. Same old crap one more time. Thanks again.. it's been a slice... let's do lunch...

[to the camera]: *sigh* I suppose the only mystery left is if it really is free will, or if bigotry is structurally necessary for survival, or a simple remnant of old DNA that the cortex just can't comprehend and resolve to modern society. Maybe I need a bigger sample.

                    • Read as: you got nothin'. So, thanks for nothin'. May it comfort you in your dotage.
                    • Yes, in light of things, when you run out of turtles that would be your expected response. C'est la vie...

                    • Ah, that's right, I keep on forgetting, equality (loss of supremacy, prestige, status, and privilege) is bigotry to you. I'll try to remember that for future reference

:-) Box turtles(thx d_r), right? Hilarious.. Like I tell d_r, please keep digging... a little help is always appreciated.

  • The one criticism of atheists and agnostics that resonates with me is that they don't really have an established book of beliefs and guidelines. Living life without a code of behavior is somewhat like a computer running without a program... how are you going to predict what it's going to do?

It would be nice for everyone to have their own compiled set of standards, rules, and objective functions that characterizes their philosophy and that they actually use to guide their behavior. Unfortunately, the OKCup

    • Yes, actually they do. It's just more based on the evidence of the physical realm, not superstition designed to make the weak little general look like some great wizard that all shall obey, it doesn't need to be written down for the high priests to decree, it is built into the BIOS.
