Journal zogger's Journal: Green shoots or hype? 6

We keep getting massive job losses from businesses closing down, which lead to businesses that rely on *those* businesses being functional etc also closing down, leading to more job loss. It's a feedback loop of sorts and is being reflected in the changing nature of the homeless.

And I am still failing to see any credible evidence that bailing out "flash trade" casino banks with all that scratch they used did anything but save millionaire's and billionaire's "jobs".

And I have no good answer to this either because the entire system is skewed on purpose to transfer wealth upstream into as few of hands as possible. There's no little small scale "reform" that will change this situation, it has been building for decades now since the big labor arbitrage globalization push started. They systematically raped and looted the economy for short term gain, gave the natives who sat and watched more or less passively as industry after industry went bankrupt here, some temporary cheap trinkets at the chinamart trading post to keep them amused.

Massive corporate raiding enshrined into the economic model and pushed by wall street insiders at the Fed and in the Treasury, and now a lot of them are saying "well, gee, looks like Asia, where we shipped all the wealth creation jobs, is now the big powerhouse so we'll be moving there. Thanks for all the money, suckers!"

I just hope they DO all move there and good riddance and maybe this nation can get back to having a widely diversified economy with am emphasis on wealth production, not wealth skimming and rearranging.

  • Is that our traditional indicators, due to globalization, no longer work.

So while the elite minority may be now emerging from recession, the Green Shoots have Dead Roots- and we're headed for corporate feudalism, in which no living human being is guaranteed pursuit of happiness.

    • Is that our traditional indicators, due to globalization, no longer work.

Well put. We were supposed to "Think Globally and Act Locally", but ended up with Globalization end to end. The future is definitely going to be much more localized as a result.
  • "I just hope they DO all move there and good riddance and maybe this nation can get back to having a widely diversified economy with am emphasis on wealth production, not wealth skimming and rearranging."

But them "moving there" will not help.

And I think the result you predict is not going to happen, due to them moving, or otherwise. I think our "local" economy produced wealth for a long time, until our methods became widely known (and the patents expired).

Now those "other" humans who will create more wealt

  • No matter how well things go, Peak Oil is still hurtling at us like a freight train and I ain't seen nothing yet that's going to do more than chip at it.
    • Our only long term practical energy source is fusion power. Nothing else comes even close, even fission. And fission was overhyped, the cost estimates were lowballed, they promised some magical way to deal with the waste starting in the 50s and are no closer now than then, and you can't have it all over because you can make bad boom boom stuff from it, even just having the tech is enough to threaten massive war. We are fracing that right now, big fat war in Iran over access to nuclear power. It sucks, wish

      • IF we had done a manhattan project/apollo moon landing project scale effort back during the first oil shock days, 30 years ago now, which is the one thing Carter got right and we should have acted on, we'd be sitting pretty now. Heck, we could have done that last year instead of throwing a trillion bucks at casino bankers!

        Hear, hear!

On the hype or green shoots thing, it's prolly both, just one for some and the other for others (I'll let you know which it is for me if I ever get a job again in my profession!

Anyone can make an omelet with eggs. The trick is to make one with none.
