handsomepete's Journal: PlayStation 3 and Backwards Compatibility? 2

Journal by handsomepete
So I've been planning on getting an Xbox 360 for a while. I've been selling off old games on Ebay / Glyde / Amazon trade in / etc so it wouldn't feel too painful on the 'ol wallet.

Then the new PS3 drops and I've been going through all my old games and I thought it would be nice to keep some of the PS2 stuff around - but my understanding is that backwards compatibility has been stripped from the PS3? Is there someone in the know who can fill me in on the history of this - is there some older revision that can do b.c. or did they strip it completely in firmware? Is there any reason why I would get a PS3 over an Xbox 360?

Any info or random musings on the subject would be appreciated.
