  • Tops FORTUNE's List of Most-Admired Tobacco Companies...

Can anybody tell me, what's to admire about a tobacco company? In that case, I sure do admire the foreigners in Afghanistan for movin' all that opium our way...

    • Can anybody tell me, what's to admire about a tobacco company?

They have the guts to sell a product that is politically incorrect and financially marginal with lots of financial risk (law suits, etc., and yes law suits will become popular again once the moralists yet again get the high ground over the politics).

I suppose I can expect an anti-tobacco person to mod this post Off-topic if he has Moderation points available. I'm waiting for the fanaticism.

      • Actually, I'm only "anti-tobacco" to the extent that I don't ingest it. I don't like seeing it being subsidized. And I do consider the lawsuits to be frivolous. It's like hopping on the bus after the accident to collect an insurance payment.

        • For the record, I wasn't ranting against you, I was just making a relevant statement and answering your question (I presumed you were probably more libertarian on the issue, but wasn't sure). Also, companies like Altria (Philip-Morris) don't impress me morally or otherwise. If they can piss off the Just-Say-No crowd then yes, Altria would amuse me -:)

I've noticed several design suggestions in your code.
