Journal Sylver Dragon's Journal: No bag, please 7

Bit of a lighter note today. I have a habit, which I think is a good one, of trying to stop store clerks from putting a single item in a bag. It's simple enough, at least in my mind, if I am only buying one or two small items, they already have plenty of packaging on them, why do I need them then placed into a plastic bag? Especially for a single item, it doesn't change the number of hands required to carry the item. It isn't going to make the item that much easier to carry. Why in the world do I need a plastic bag to hold an item which is probably already in one of those nigh impregnable plastic shells? Why create the extra trash?

Is this habit peculiar to me, or do other people out there do this as well?

No bag, please

  • I've also noticed more clerks asking if you want a bag now with smaller purchases instead of simply handing you a bag with your one item in it while you're trying to dig out the change. We recycle the plastic bags when taking the dogs for a walk or save them up and take them back to the stores which have plastic bag recycling.

Boy, am I glad that's not an "and" in there.

  • Borders here in Oz charge for plastic bags (10 or 20 cents).

Most of the supermarkets have a sign up saying no bags offered for 3 items or less.

Most people now have the big resusable bags (even available in football team colours).

    • I like that idea. Those plastic bags create a mess and for small purchases they are just silly.

We also use the cloth bags for our groceries and whenever we just need a bag to carry items somewhere (beach, Christmas, etc.) Though, I hadn't seen them in team colors yet. I'd love to have a few with the Buccaneer's logo on the side.
