FortKnox's Journal: Blackholes, Stars come from same "Trough"

Y! has an interesting article on how black holes, and new stars (in the centers of galaxies) are created from the same "trough" of gaseous materials. Apparently, this "dense trough" makes it difficult for telescopes to see what's going on inside the centers of galaxies. Interesting theory.

I'm once again disappointed by Yahoo/Space.com reporting. I see the abstract for what appears to have been the original source is available on Science Express [sciencemag.org], but you need to register to get at it (and at the moment, their registration service seems to be down). Anyway, the Y! article doesn't seem to say what the new evidence is, and since the theory itself is apparently nothing new, I'm not left with any actual "news" here. It's still interesting to think about the relationship of the central bulge of a spiral galaxy to the general bulge shape of an elliptical (as far as life-cycle and whatnot goes). I suspect the original paper fills in a lot of the details that make this newsworthy.
