The Courts

Journal tomhudson's Journal: Stupid landlord trix update 5

from the "I can't believe his brain is swiss cheese" department

Mondays' mail brought the latest court judgment - in my favour - in the ongoing saga. One of my cases against my former crooked landlord was dismissed because I was 10 minutes late for the hearing, so I had appealed the dismissal, and we were back in court for a hearing on THAT. The judgment came back Monday - as expected, I won, the dismissal was repealed, and we have to go back to court and try those claims.

I'm sure he got the email Monday saying that I'm not yet sending the bailiffs after him for the $2,564 from another judgment, giving him a few days to "make an offer" to settle both that judgment and all pending claims. I predicted that the most likely outcome was that he wouldn't reply, and it looks like I'm right.

Oh, BTW, the mailman had 2 other presents for me that day - two more registered letters that I had sent to the idiot that were refused. That brings our total to 5 so far. My experience has been that when people duck registered mail, it's because they are in "avoidance / denial" mode. "Why pick it up when it's just going to be more bad news?" Of course, since he hasn't read them, and they contain the actual grounds for my other claims, that means that he STILL doesn't know what he's facing, and can't properly prepare to defend himself.

Oh well ... stupid is as stupid does.

We'll probably have a hearing within the next month ... I'll probably give him another week, then sic the bailiffs on him. After what he put me through, it's the least I can do for him :-)

  • nastier for him - sell the judgements to a collection agency - you get the cash (minus the agency % NOW) and he gets professional asswipes on his case.

    • It's not that hard to just seize the building. The mortgage holder then gets involved. That's going to be painful - for him. Nice ding on his credit report as well, and we all know how that affects "flippers" who max out their credit because they think they "deserve" it or it's a "right".

  • I know it's been a shitty situation for you, but it's sooooo hilarious. Thanks for making us laugh.
    • It's costing me a fair chunk of time off work, and it's a lot of aggravation, and if he goes bankrupt, I might not see a cent, but I don't want this guy to pull this sort of crap on anyone else - and from what I've been able to learn, he has a history of this sort of sh*t. I'm just the first one who has the resources and the knowledge to know when he's BS'ing me, and to be angry enough to call him on his lies.

Plus, when he was trying to sell the house after I sued him, when threats didn't work, he made
