Actually, the poll is stupid (Score:2)
(Knight Ridder poll conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates. Jan. 3-6, 2003. N=1,204 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.)
A very small sample for a poll of public opinion. Also, there's no information to say whether the sample they got is sufficiently representative of the majority of Americans.

Actuall the sample size is typical for a poll (rarely more than 1500 people). All polls are somewhat biased in that they only represent the views of people willing to respond to polls - which is why polls are becoming more and more unreliable - due to caller ID call blocking etc.
