Bell Canada and Telus have announced plans to start charging subscribers, http://www.nationalpost.com/nationalpost/story.html?id=638556 for incoming as well as outgoing text messages starting August of this year; with Rogers stating their intent to retain free incoming messages.

It is well known that users are torrenting video via text and consuming all he bandwidth on their network. :-)
I have a theory that somewhere in special rooms people are paid to come up with the stupid joke texts (and emails) as a way of getting people to use the services more.
