Journal davidwr's Journal: Poll: What should /. have done for April Fools in 2008? 5
Poll: What should
* I vote for what they actually did. Subtle.
* Reruns are cool OMGPONIES!
* Celebrate history and redirect page to mcom.com.
* Announce Microsoft/Sourceforge merger.
* Announce that yesterday was indeed December 31, 1983.
* Put up a fake ad "Cowboyneal.com is for sale. Send bids to bids@cowboyneal.com."

Actually, the "difference" that was noticed was the sheer confusion of articles like "ISO set to approve OOXML" and "IBM banned by (insert the government agency whose name escapes me here)". The dirty trick was that halfway down these stories there was proof they they were not, in fact, April's Fools jokes.
Thus, the "joke" was that there was no "joke".
Frankly, it wasn't a very funny joke and I would have preferred to see the ridiculous stories that have dominated in years past like "Google changes mott
