Journal Morten Hustveit's Journal: Writing Flash Games Using Only Free Tools
In the world of Flash games, poor quality catapult, quiz and pixel hunt games dominate. The target audience for the GUI Flash editors are graphic artists. These people are rarely experienced programmers, so most of their code will be copypasted from the web. However, the good thing about Flash is that it Just Works and is almost universally available. It is also very limited, which means you can get away with a few pretty sprites and focus on game mechanics. But what do you do if you're a Linux user or can't afford the commercial Flash tools? I have written a tutorial on how to write Flash games using only free tools available in Debian and soon Ubuntu (Hardy), targeted at coders, so that you can get started making awesome games.
