Journal FortKnox's Journal: [Update] Memeprisal: "Tis the season" 24

This comes from shadow wrought, stoolpigeon, JC, Smitty, and originally, I think, RM6f9

Post a comment to this thread, and I will:

1. Tell you why I befriended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7. In return, you must post this in your Journal/Blag/whatever.

Update: Ahh, the 2 minute rule... killing my productivity from answering all these... I'll get to you eventually, but it'll be off and on over the next day or two. Sorry!

Jeez... I have no memory that far back... #3 would explain WHY, though.

This will come out in most of my answers. You are a geek. You fit in the slashdot crowd for the normal reasons. You have a family, which makes you semi unique. You work for CCFC, that makes you extremely unique. In a world of atheist geeks that purposely scare or offend Christians.
  • "Snake Plissken? I heard you were dead."

    • Easy person to start with...
      1. Tell you why I befriended you.
Easy, you're the funniest guy on slashdot in my opinion. I love seeing your name in a front page article, cause I know your pointing something ridiculous out, or making a joke, lighting up things.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
As I mentioned, your humor, but you also have a very human, very family side that I find even cooler.

        1) "funniest guy on slashdot" is very flattering, thank you. (I'm sure my various employers would love to know how many salary dollars that honour has cost them over the years.)

        3) & 4) Thank you. I do have a big ol' heart. That's why I bought my Lovely Lady a new caller ID box for Valentine's Day. [slashdot.org] Take a number, ladies, guys like me are once in a lifetime.

        5) Multiply. Eh. I tried it and really just found it... hmm.. I'm just doing 'brain > keyboard' dump and can't put my finger on it. Multiply just

    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.
Damnit if I know. You were one of like my first 10 friends, IIRC. Looong time ago.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
      Just a standard 'friend', really...

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
You're just like a dependable friend. You aren't afraid to talk stuff like politics... you aren't afraid to share stories from home... you are involved with us on dumb memes and webgames and stuff. Just a friend I like to keep tabs on.
  • Shoot from the hip!

Pittsburgh connection, probably. Though I seem to remember that you were from PA after I friended you... if that's the case, probably some sport related comment...

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
Pittsburgh.... Penguins, Steelers, Pirates, Penn State... its all good.

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
Nice to find techies with sports love. Especially from Pittsburgh.

      4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

Got indoctrinated into "the circle" by Bellas Quies, Flamesplash, and Interrobang

We were in the same National Fraternity (in F, S, & C, PSU '95)

        3. Tell you something I like about you.
        Just an all-around decent guy.

        4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Scripting Galaxis on-line and the other game where you got gold for having people click on your link.

Don't remember. Could either be your blatant honesty, something techie you said, something sports related you said, or something funny you've said. Any of those things I've seen you say and would friend you on any of them.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
      Sports, Raiders.

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were from the east coast. Your honesty is from the heart and straight up,
      • re 5.

I joined multiply with the big exodus and genuinely liked it.
But soon after i started getting spammed to be friended by folks i didn't know or had any interest in reading about or keeping up with.
Soon after that the facebook flap started with their data mining fiasco.
I decided to pull out of all and any social networking sites that i was associated with unless my presence on them was my professional face or my business.

    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.
Can't remember... too long ago. Probably has to do with #3...

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
      Me? Again, see #3

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are pretty much just like me, minus the coding. You dig sports, games, have a very similar sense of humor, enjoy cooking, etc... I'm sure there was a comment or JE that I said "he, I want to friend him", but I just don't remember which.

      • The multiply one is a bit easier to answer. I really like the /. and I really didn't like how Multiply worked. I had a lot of friends on the dot, but not all of them warranted reading first thing in the morning. So I could look through my messages and generally tell what I need to read first. Since I only had so much time (a theme that will predominate the next answer;-) it was an easy way to filter. It ended up being that I just didn't ahve the time to read what I wanted to read on slashdot and read w
  • Reposted in my journal [slashdot.org], but with a twist - you don't have post an entry to get my answers - the page is "Web 3.0 - predictive technology" preview-enabled. Based on your slashdot user id, it checks all the right boxes.

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
Your honesty. You'll share your opinion, and make a debate with me if I disagree. Thought out discussion, no emotions or bad feelings. Its refreshing in a place like this.

      4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Simple, your 'gender' journal entries. Made me think about the issue in a new light. I thoroughly enjoyed them. I also remember you like to be
      • Whoops... doing multiple at once has taken its toll: 1. Tell you why I befriended you.
I don't remember. Some post you made in the past made me laugh, think, or changed my opinion. Was well before the 'gender' journals. I can't think back that far, but I can say I'm glad I've been friended to you.

        2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
Eh, I'll use 'Barbie' from the #3 answer.
  • the first rule of * fight club, you don't post on /. ;-)

    Fire away Mr.
    • Don't forget to put it in your blag, dude...

      1. Tell you why I befriended you.
Geez, like #1 or 2 in friending. Just an alright guy.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
      Badass

      3. Tell you something I like about you.
Like I've mentioned in everyone else's entries... I respect your honest to goodness honesty, and the fact that you aren't malicious in arguments. Tell it how it is.

      4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
The fact you've never played in any photocons..
      • Why so afraid of having your mug on the net?

I'm not afraid, I'm just cautious.

For example. I knew a guy who was put on 6 months probation at my last work place because of some inappropriate pictures he had on his MySpace account.

Was it work related? No. Should it have been actionable by his employer? GA is an "at will" employment state.

Now, as far as pictures of me go? It is a privacy thing, pretty much. That and at this point it's a lot of fun to keep you guys n gals guessing. :-P
  • I just had to go make sure you had a blue dot next to your name.
  • Wow, are you still around? Congratulations on being mentioned on the slashdot front page X years ago. Somehow I still knew your usr name.
