Journal dh003i's Journal: Search for good music? 1

If anyone's reading this, I'd like to know the names of some of the street music in Paris and Venice. For those of you that don't know, street music is the romantic music that you'll hear on the streets of Paris and Venice. Indianna Jones and The Last Crusade features one scene which had some of Venice's street music.

Another thing I'm looking for is violin implementations of Beethoven's great piano pieces (and other piano pieces). I have downloaded a version of Fuer Elise played on the violin -- lovely. I'd love to have a version of the three parts to the Moonlight Sonata in violin (it'd be interesting to see the 3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata played on violin).

  • I actually play the violin, and can play the piano as well. There is one minor problem that is often overlooked by many when it comes to the violin. It has smaller range of possible notes available to it, and it is difficult to play more than one part at a time (although it can be done, hear Bach's partitas for violin solo, especially partita #2).

Moonlight Sonata is one of the deceptively simple pieces that is powerfully expressive. While it would be easy for a secon year violin student to play the treble line, the bass line is several octaves below. It would be possible to have a cello part and a violin part, but not a violin duet or a violin solo rendition.

One could hypothetically transpose the treble line to a higher octave, but it would be so high it would probably sound repulsive to the ear.

Also, I believe much of the beauty of Moonlight Sonata to come from the rather abrupt nature of the piano, the hammer motion yields a stark yet beautiful tone that is sharply contrasted by the bowed sound of the violin. I think that beauty would be lost if played on the violin.

Anyway, my personal opinion after 20 years playing the old fiddle.
