Got any recomendations for laptops? A friend is looking, and I don't really keep up. I'm just looking for the best comination of cheap/good warranty.

  • A little over a year ago, I bought myself a Compaq Presario from either BB or CC (can't remember which). Anyway, the point was that it was the first $500 "big name" laptop, and if I could make it last 2 years, I'd have more than gotten my money's worth.

    So far, so good, although the 512MB of RAM can be a little restrictive at times. At this point, you should be able to get a $500-$600 laptop with some decent specs, HOWEVER, you'll want to buy from someone who's still offering XP, becaasue a Vista laptop
