Journal Talinom's Journal: CFLs good for the environment? 3

Bad for your pocketbook.

I will be amused to see what happens in states and countries that are mandating a conversion to CFLs when they find out that they contain mercury and may be bad for the environment. No, it is not a HAZMAT situation like in the article, however how many people know how to properly dispose of them? You save them up and dispose of them like you do a PC or microwave. You do NOT toss them in the garbage. (Unless it's just this once because you need to do something else quickly.)

Currently I am waiting for the lawsuits to pop up when people figure out that mercury poisoning is a remote possibility. The lawyers will have a field day with that, legislation banning the bulbs will be put in place, and the companies sued for making a dangerous product.

The fact that they were legislated into use and have complete instructions on the packaging will go unnoticed.

I have two 100 watt full spectrum incandescent bulbs in my bedroom. Now before you say "are you blind yet," no I'm not. The light emitted from these is more like the sun and more vibrant. It also helps mitigate SAD [wikipedia.org], an issue for those of us in Washington.

There are some full spectrum CFLs [fullspectr...utions.com] out there but I like the light I have. It isn't the best, but it is WAY better than even a normal light bulb.

This should be incredible fun to hash out. But then again regular fluorescent bulbs had this same issue. They used to break all the time, in fact more frequently because they were usually those long rods of glass. A whole world full of mercury contamination.

Since when did mercury become "teh ultimate EVIL!!!!11!1!1!1oneone" anyway? I remember mercury getting passed around in science class. I had some of the stuff sitting in a small puddle in my hand, and it hasn't caused any problems for me. Those T12

If you have a procedure with 10 parameters, you probably missed some.
