Journal ces's Journal: Bought a DSLR 18
I bought a Canon EOS-30D and a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM lens as well as a couple CF cards and some other odds and ends (filters, case, etc.).

I want a D80 or D200 with Canon lens mount. ;-)
The thing that pushed me to Canon is I have some Canon lenses and a Canon flash already. Also Canon seems to be putting a little more $$ into product development (which means new Cameras and lenses more often)
In the end it doesn't really matter as I've seen great pictures shot with a pinhole or disposable camera while I've seen crappy pictures shot with top-of-the line bodies and glass. (sadly I think my shots proably tend more toward the latter) The nut behin

Pentax and Panasonic/Leica too. Not so sure about the Sony DSLRs though, they really haven't had time to change things much from Minolta/Konica.
However, I do like their color handling and their adoption of a full frame sensor in some of their models.
Most of the brands each have their own distinct advantages (and disadvantages). Some other points in Canon's favor are their "L" series tele lenses and zooms, tilt-shift lenses, image stablization, and relatively rapid new product development.

Not sure I trust Sony not to fuck it up by switching to their proprietary crap.

Which ones do you have?
something else that you want to buy. Dangerous that.
Yea, there are at least 4 zooms on my wish list:
1. EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5
2. EF 70-200 f/4L or EF 70-200 f/4L IS (not sure which yet, though the $500 price difference is enough for another lens)
3. EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS
4. EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS
Possibly also the 580EX flash though I already have a 550EX (E-TTL II would be nice)

(this might be a good alternative to the 17-55 f/2.8 IS, cost is about the same. The extra stop on the f/2.8 is ideal for the conditions I find myself usually shoot in. OTOH the extra reach, "L" build, and ability to be used on a full-frame body are nice)
