Journal andr0meda's Journal: Going to Iraq costed you.. 5

409.198.000.000 cost (http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182)
456.829.602 people (http://www.census.gov/govs/statetax/05staxrank.html)

The Iraq war costed you officially 895 dollar per person on average.

Edit: Ok, the average cost per person just went up as I overestimated US head-count slightly ;) Thanks to Ethelred for doing the maths! Also, the cost itself went up.. We're now at 410.776.000.000, which makes is 1.369,25$ per person. Babies and grandmothers included. If we bring the number down to the active working population (about 135 Mill), you're looking at a cost of 3.041$ per active working person in the US.

  • I think you mean the US has 298,444,215 people as of June 2006 (currently estimated at over 300 million).

    So $409,198,000,000 / 300 million = $1,363.99 per US citizen.

    Cheers,

    Ethelred

    • Hmm, thanks for the correction. I always thought the US had half a billion citizens, for some reason. Well, makes it even more painfull I guess..

      • The EU is actually close to half a billion, at about 456 million as of 2004. However, America is estimated to reach 500 million by around 2050, while the EU is expected to stay constant or go down slightly by that point.

        Cheers,

        Ethelred

I imagine if the christian right continue to elect morons like we have for a President, there will be a net-migration out of the country and we won't make 500M by 2050 after all...

        • Europe is already pretty crowded, or atleast the place where I live. The whole country has gradually turned into some sort of giant suburb, with some central places that we call 'city'. Most of Europe also features 2 or more storry(?) houses while in the US, cities are typically very flat, the noticeable exception being the lunatics who put down a skyscrapers downtown citicenter because he needed to compensate for something ;)

The 60ies baby boom is going to result in less population over time, but we have
