Journal FortKnox's Journal: Week 11 Picks 10
Sorry I haven't commented and stuff much. Been REALLY busy at work, lately. Here's my picks, in order of confidence, as usual.
Steelers at Titans Steelers should have no trouble with McNair. Eddie George may have a good game, but not the passing attack. Pitt is looking like a West Coast Offense at how its putting up points. Pittsburgh by 14
Packers at Vikings Minnesota looks good, and green bay looks terrible. YEAH, RIGHT! Green Bay by 10
Cards at Eagles The Cards defense is promising. The offense is TERRIBLE. Philly by 10
Broncos at Seahawks Clinton Portis has a career day. Denver by 10
Cowboys at Colts The Colts confidence holds up against the weak Cowboy Offense. Indianapolis by 7
Panthers at Bucs Well, normally I'd think this would be a great game, but Julius Peppers decided drugs were more important than football, so this should be an easy win for the Bucs. Tampa Bay by 7
Pats at Raiders The old folks home just got a shot of Viagra Oakland by 7
Bears at Rams Marc Bulgers last shot to prove he should be the starter next week. St Louis by 7
Ravens at Dolphins The Ravens D may be able to hold Rickey off, but the only chance they have to score points is on special teams. Miami by 6
Jags at Texans Revenge, that's what this game is about. Jacksonville by 6
Jets at Lions A new Jets offense starts off on the right foot. Don't underestimate the lions, though. New York by 5
49ers at Chargers Tough call. The Chargers D is out for some blood, and the 9ers O is on fire. San Fransico by 3
Bills at Chiefs I'm still on Drews back. Its a total crapshoot with the point total approaching 100. Buffalo by 3
Skins at Giants Tough call. I like the Skins, because the giants play poorly against mediocre teams. Washington by 3
Saints at Falcons Game of the week. I'll give it to N'awlins, but JUST by a smidgeon. New Orleans by 2
Browns at Bengals Both teams are fighting for pride. The battle of Ohio will be full of blood. Bengals by 1

I think this will be a much closer game that most people believe. Definitely Tommy's first "real" challenge. Expect the Titans to throw a lot of different "looks" on defense. Still... Steelers, but only by 6.
Packers at Vikings Minnesota looks good, and green bay looks terrible. YEAH, RIGHT! Green Bay by 10
Total agreement. Packers with a healthy Favre are the best team in the NFL. Packers by 10.
Cards at Eagles The Cards defense is promising. The offense is TERRIBLE. Philly by 10
Lucky for the goose egg laying Eagles that the Cards suck even more. What's up with McNabb? Eagles by 7.
Broncos at Seahawks Clinton Portis has a career day. Denver by 10
Mr. Portis should rush for well over 100 yards against the WORST rush defense in the NFL. Denver by 14.
Cowboys at Colts The Colts confidence holds up against the weak Cowboy Offense. Indianapolis by 7
Yeah. Manning and Co. should gain some confidence this week. Cowboys need to shake up their coaching and front office, soon. And maybe draft a little better (maybe a quarterback?????) Cowboys defense is pretty good. Watch for Williams and Coakley to give Manning a little trouble. Still...Indie by 10.
Panthers at Bucs Well, normally I'd think this would be a great game, but Julius Peppers decided drugs were more important than football, so this should be an easy win for the Bucs. Tampa Bay by 7
So disappointed in the Peppers situation. Going into the weekend with 10 sacks as a newbie! However, what Bucs will show up? The one that scores TDs or the one that turns over the ball ever 5th play? With Peppers out look for the Bucs to control the line of scrimmage. Maybe Keyshawn will stop talking about USC football actually do something for the team that pays him? Bucs by 10.
Pats at Raiders The old folks home just got a shot of Viagra Oakland by 7
Wow. Rematch and revenge. Old folks home! LOL! Got to disagree here. I think the Pats have found their offense. Look for a great quarterback competition in this one. Brady should throw for 300+ and Gannon should throw for 300+. But in the end, Pats by 3.
Bears at Rams Marc Bulgers last shot to prove he should be the starter next week. St Louis by 7
I like Bulger, but a healthy Kurt Warner is just plain better. That said, I love the Bears, but Urlacher can not win games by himself and the Bears have no quarterback. Look for the Rams to control the game from the first snap. Rams by 14.
Ravens at Dolphins The Ravens D may be able to hold Rickey off, but the only chance they have to score points is on special teams. Miami by 6
Ravens D may be able to hold off Williams... bigger questions is can Miami find a quarterback who can turn the ball over less than 4 times a game? I think Miami is finished for the season. Ravens by 3.
Jags at Texans Revenge, that's what this game is about. Jacksonville by 6
Hmmm... definitely not a blockbuster kind of game. Jacksonville by 10.
Jets at Lions A new Jets offense starts off on the right foot. Don't underestimate the lions, though. New York by 5
The Lions suck and they are forever cursed for wasting such a great talent as Barry Sanders. Their defense has a combined 19 sacks and 5 interceptions. Opponents are averaging 363 yards and 25 points a game. Jets by 14.
49ers at Chargers Tough call. The Chargers D is out for some blood, and the 9ers O is on fire. San Fransico by 3
San Fran is the second best team in the NFL. Chargers have completely fallen apart. Sad. Sad. Sad. Jeff Garcia will dominate the Chargers D (I love Seau, but maybe someone should send him a retirement package: 31 solo tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception is not acceptable.) 49ers by 14.
Bills at Chiefs I'm still on Drews back. Its a total crapshoot with the point total approaching 100. Buffalo by 3
Wow. What Chiefs team will show up? I think Holmes, Gonzalez, and Green rebound this week and squeeze out Drew and Co. Chiefs by 3.
Skins at Giants Tough call. I like the Skins, because the giants play poorly against mediocre teams. Washington by 3
I hate Spurrier... love the Skins. Maybe after he goes 2 games under
Saints at Falcons Game of the week. I'll give it to N'awlins, but JUST by a smidgeon. New Orleans by 2
Looking forward to another great game. I think Vicks wins the family competition this time. Falcons by 3.
Browns at Bengals Both teams are fighting for pride. The battle of Ohio will be full of blood. Bengals by 1
Battle of the Sucky Teams. Pride? Pride left both programs in the late 80s. Ummm... Browns by 1.

Browns Offense: 300 yards per game (Rushing is a sad 72 yards per game)
Opponents Offense: 350 yards per game.
Tim Couch has at least 2 more years before he matures as an NFL QB (if the fans in Cleveland allow him to mature). Browns should draft a solid Tight End and some DBs and LBs in the next 2 years.
Bottom line: offense is there, Dawson, Northcutt, Davis, and Morgan are good. Jamel White is still learning.
Defense needs help and soon. Get the defense in order and square away a good TE and you have a playoff bound team.
Bengals are another story altogether... sad, sad, sad.
First... fire the entire coaching staff. Hire away the wonderfully talented coach (not GM) Mike Holgrem(sp) (whom I would imagine is beginning to pack his things in Seattle).
Second, start Akili. You paid for him. Play him. If he complains about an "ouching" release him. But I have a sneaking suspicion that playing for guru Mike you may just see Akili step up and be the QB we all saw at Oregon. Emmmmmm 70 yard TD passes arer always sweeeeeetttttttttt.
Third, sit the O-Line down and explain pass blocking in detail. Inform them that sacks are bad, bad, bad and that they need to s-u-s-t-a-i-n their blocks.
Fourth, keep giving the ball to Dillon (one of the most under-rated backs in the NFL). Give him a strong, dominating O Line and he'll give you consistant 100 yard games and 1500 yard seasons. And back him up with Little Warrick.
Fifth, add a good inside LB and an experienced Strong Safety (maybe deal away 3 of the 4 you currently have????) and your defense will come around.
Playoffs... with Mike in charge: 3 years.
Out.

MIKE BROWN
Mike's daddy (Paul) was a great player, wonderful coach, and good GM. Mike isn't any of these, but is bound and determined to take his daddy's GM position. Why is he a terrible GM? He doesn't hire and keep staff/coaches because of skill, he does it for family loyalty. Kenny Anderson was a GREAT bengals QB. Ever since he's been QB coach, the QB has been TERRIBLE and cincy hasn't had a winning season. What would you do? Fire that loser! He was a good QB but is a terrible QB coach!
First order of business: Hire a real GM. There is rumors of Dick Jaron jumping up to the GM spot at the end of the season (which was denied by all parties for a single reason. If they admitted to talking about it, they'd all be in violation of talking to a coach under contract during the season). Why would Mike give up the GM spot for Jaron? Jaron, when he was a player, was a DB for the Bengals.
Next order of business? You got this one. PUT AKILI IN THE GAME. Don't take him out. The season is a loss. Let him develop into a franchise QB. Don't draft anymore QBs. Don't sign anymore QBs. Just go with akili!!
The coaching isn't terrible (tbey are just forced to go with what mike wants). Once they have a franchise QB, they have an offensive leader. Lebeau can work with one and create wins. Bratowski is a good O coordinator when the O wants to produce. They could definately use a better WR, QB, and DB coach. The defensive coordinator needs some shaking up (last year he did a great job, but mostly cause LeBeau set up the D before taking over as coach).
The WR are finally coming into their own (especially Chad Johnson), but they are in need of more young talent. Unforetunately, they have only one scout. So the last order of business is to hire yourself an NFL staff, not a division III football staff.
