Stargoat's Journal: Skin cancer

Found out I may have skin cancer. And to make matters worse, there's a pledge drive on NPR.

But I'm bound and determined to be a cancer survivor. 'Cause like, if it is cancer, it's only basal cell carcinoma. Heh. And before you ask, I'm 27 and was a life guard for three years.

It's just basal cell. It's basically a cancerous wart, near as I can tell. I had a small bump on my nose that would grow, fall off, and then grow again. Kind of gross, actually. I thought it was a wart or mole or something.

Eight hundred thousand Americans get it each year. It's not a big deal at all. But I'll be able to run around going, "I'm a cancer survivor!!" Heh.

Don't worry about it until they've confirmed it's cancer. I have a 6" growth in my chest that runs from the front to the back near the right shoulder blade. Turns out I'm just fat. Biopsy showed it was a lipoma, fat cells that broke off and are growing where they shouldn't.

Even if it is one of the better cancers to have (as long as you have to have one), it still sucks.
