Journal IamBMETammy's Journal: This is just a rant against my mother 11

As part of my efforts to take better care of myself I've changed what I eat and am losing weight. Since I buckled down over Christmas break I've lost a little over 20lbs, which I'm pretty pleased with. So I arrive back at my parents' house tonight and have the following conversation after declining some pound cake:

Mom: So have you lost any weight?

Me: Yeah, I've lost around 20 pounds.

Mom: You can't really tell.

Okay, seriously? If someone says they've lost weight, even if you can't tell, lie. Tell them they look great, especially if you know they've been exercising and eating well.

People I go to school with can tell and I see them just as much as my mother and they didn't even know I'd been doing anything. They just randomly decided to compliment me.

But my mom? Nope. I know she's missing that switch in her brain that keeps her from saying thoughtlessly shitty stuff, but it's still irritating.

I really do think I'm entitled to more issues than I have. At least it has gotten better the last year or two.

  • Take our word for it. :-)

Or, I bet that there is a certain fallen person around who has a positive opinion. Trust him on this. :-)
  • In the past ~6 months, I've dropped one pants size, on my way to another, but people around me have the decency to lie most of the time. The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is what happens to my ink? It was put on fat, will it get distorted? So I'll be sure to avoid stuff around the stomach and other areas that may have to be surgically removed if I lose more weight. Keep up the good work.
    • Now there's a good excuse -- eating for the sake of art. :)

Me, I just tell people everyone once in a while that I've lost weight, if I can button my pants on the first try, and they pretend to care. :)
    • I have lost weight in the past (around 70lbs) and it didn't really impact my tattoos, but for the most part they are located on places that don't change much with weight gain/loss like down the middle of my back or over my sternum. I know people who have lost a lot of weight and it doesn't seem to change their tattoos unless they were placed around the belly button or inner arm or other softer areas of the body.

  • It's rare I hear of an Asian mother who doesn't pull shit like this on their daughters...
    • Where does your Asian ancestry come from?

It's not just daughters though, it's always fun to go with Tammy's mom to meet the Filipinos when there's a party:

"Hi [fallen], nice to see you again, ooh, you're getting fat!"
"What? I weight the same now that I did last year! But hi! You're getting old and wrinkly you old crone, now go to hell."

"Hi [fallen], good to see you! Are you still working at [Company]"
      "Yep, still there"
*slaps me on the shoulder* "You should come work at my company! There are openings in the
  • Unless you have in excess of 150-200 lbs to lose, everybody can tell that you've lost 20 lbs. Even then people can probably tell in your face. That's just a shitty thing to say, and it wasn't "thoughtless" either.
