In a recent interview here Bill Gates had this to say about security:

Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine.

Listen closely! Can you hear the soft whirring of hard drives loading nessus in Norway and China :)

*That* "vulnerability" I thought was at least as absurd as Gates' claims here:

      1) Is there any operating system that *isn't* vulnerable to such an attack?

      2) If Microsoft had addressed that threat in the only way I can think of -- modifying all audio output so that it could be detected by the speech recogntion -- what do you think the Slashbot response to that would have been?

I don't know about the slashbot response, but the script kiddie response has already been covered by a Dilbert cartoon-

If you use the same standards as the MoAB guys, then it would be quite easy for the right guys.
  • "Bring it on."

Didn't work out so well for the last public figure to say that. I wonder if Bill will do better?
  • "I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine."

Because only once a month would be a HUGE reduction - sort of like "I dare you to eat only ONE salted peanut ..."
