Journal damn_registrars's Journal: President Lawnchair in Cartoons, again 22

Not that it hasn't been described before, but this one from Chris Britt very accurately describes why President Lawnchair has been underimpressive for actual liberals.

Really, he remained in office by a combination of
  • A general lack of liberals in this country
    • ...and...
  • The far more dramatic threat that the other conservatives posed to the ability of us few remaining liberals who wanted to be able to continue to exist.

President Lawnchair in Cartoons, again

  • I don't believe so. I don't know any liberals that would ever vote for a democrat or a republican.

    • I am a liberal who is realistic enough to acknowledge that it is better to be employed than to be idealistic. If my career was in a field that the republicans did not so thoroughly despise I would be willing to vote for candidates who are less likely to win, but my desire to have a job to pay the bills drives me to vote for the candidate least likely to fuck me sideways.
      • So, then, you're just another regular schmoe, not a liberal at all. You just talk trash... Kinda, no, exactly like Mr. Smith... And besides that, seeing you still believe democrats and republicans are in opposition, there's no getting through that idealism that keeps you locked in, but it's as phony as a three dollar bill. The only 'idealism' on display is overt self interest.

        • I can't help anyone if I am unemployed.
          • You're that specialized, huh? So dependent? That's just pitiful...

            • Big science is almost impossible to fund adequately with anything other than government money. Granted, in this country we aren't funding it well with government money either but it is a better shot than any other currently presented here. It isn't about specialization, it is about the infrastructure that is required in order to answer some of the most critical questions of our era.
              • Avoiding the issue there. There are other lines of work... But you vote for a corrupt politician so you can work in 'Big Science'... None of that makes you a 'liberal', on the contrary, you are quite conservative in same manner you perceive Obama. You want to protect an industry you benefit from, regardless of the consequences. You're no different than the bankers...

                • No, you are full of shit again. You don't have to work a minimum wage job or be a politician to be a liberal. Furthermore if scientific literacy in this country was even approaching a respectable level my field would be able to pull in research money without having to go to the federal government; it is because of conservative idiocy on numerous levels that we scientists are left with this situation.
                  • Pffft! You're just rationalizing your bullshit. You're as conservative as everybody around... You are a willing part of its very structure... Being comfortable can do that to you. I am very familiar with the feeling. You become averse to any risks.. You? liberal? please! You march in lockstep with Mr. Smith while making silly faces at each other...

          • The empirical result of Obamanomics has been to reduce workforce participation to European levels of suck [shadowstats.com].
Because bribes keep people on the plantation, apparently.
And all of this un-Constitutional Amnesty helps whom. . .?
    • Man, fuck off with that "No true Scotsman" bullshit.
  • The sj-r laid Britt off a couple of years ago, he's with the Illinois Times [illinoistimes.com] now.

    • That might explain why it was so hard to find that cartoon in particular; I kept finding sites linking to a page that no longer hosted it.

That said, I know that a lot of editorial cartoonists have been laid off in the past 10 or so years. I wouldn't exactly say it is a field that has a lot of career potential. Even signing up with a distributor doesn't seem to keep some of the cartoonists employed. Glad to hear he found a new workplace, I hope it goes well for him.

It is easier to write an incorrect program than understand a correct one.
