Journal btlzu2's Journal: i think there's a pattern here... :) top 150 songs 4

It's been a while since I had my first iPod, so I decided to reflect on my favorite songs since my first iPod. Of course, this isn't representative of my entire life nor necessarily all my favorite songs. I probably listened to Achtung Baby by U2 in college about 5000 times. :) Anyway, I pretty much love this playlist though. I could easily enjoy any of these songs, "guilty pleasure" or not.

  • In my top 150, there are 29 artists, and I'm pleasantly surprised there are so many. I was really expecting a lot less diversity.

The five with the most songs:
28 of the songs are by Sufjan Stevens (19%)
22 of the songs are by Mason Jennings (15%)
20 of the songs are by The New Amsterdams (13%)
15 of the songs are by Rocky Votolato (10%)
11 of the songs are by Kid Dakota (7%)

13 of the 29 artists only have one song in the top 150. Of those 13, 4 of those songs also happen to be the only songs I have by those artis
    • so, would you say, then, that your tastes come from a) simply liking less maintstream musicians b) a distaste for a perceived "selling out" c) ???

just curious because i think the average person wouldn't know 80% of the people on my list, but it's definitely mainstream compared to you. i sometimes have a guilty pleasure or two like "lit" or whatever who probably just make songs to "score chicks and make da numbah one", but i tend to think the groups i like are artists and have/had integrity to be honest in
      • Looking at my list, there are artists that I think are pretty recognizable. I've got Bright Eyes, Counting Crows, Death Cab For Cutie, Pete Yorn (With 8 songs he's definitely my favorite "popular" musician), Tori Amos, and Snow Patrol. but that only makes up 17 songs.

Honestly, I'm becoming less of an indie snob that I once was. For example, let's talk about how I heard about Sufjan Stevens, since I can't seem to shut up about him. After about a month on last.fm, he popped up on my recommendations. And I saw
