Journal glarbl_blarbl's Journal: Posting as Anonymous Coward killed my moderation!

I've been hanging around /. for a couple of years now, and have built up positive karma - so I've been getting mod points fairly regularly for about a year now. I was well aware that posting in a discussion in which I had spent mod points would unmoderate those comments. I'm totally cool with that and understand the rationale behind that policy. But I know I've seen other people post comments as an AC and include their userid and a note saying "posting AC to preserve spent mod points". Granted, this issue is not covered in the FAQ - but I was slightly miffed that when I posted as AC my moderations were undone.

I don't understand why the system is set up this way. For one thing, I had spent all my points so there was no possibility of modding up my post. And for another I was AC, so even if I did mod up my own post I wouldn't gain any karma - right?

I like being a moderator, and I feel like I do it well. I have even modded up posts with which I disagreed but found that they were insightful or informative. So it annoys me that the points I carefully spent were wiped away for what seems like no reason.

Ok, I'm done ranting for now. I feel a little better now. And remember kids: even posting anonymously won't preserve those mod points you spent!
