Journal FortKnox's Journal: Wii vs XBox360 14

This may be a bit of a biased opinion (I'm a nintendo fanboy) and not fair competition, but its what I experienced....

I went to a gaming night at my old consulting firm. We had a cube, a Wii, and 2 XBox 360s.
The cube I spent some time on, since its what I'm familiar with, and I can play it well.
From there, I went to the Wii (4 players!)... played some bowling and some tennis (Wii Sports). I thought it was fun, even ended up with a touch of sweat on my head.

Then I moved to the room with the xboxs... they got them networked and were playing 2 against 2 in gears of war, both on projectors in HD.
All I can say is WOW! And I do mean WOW! Extremely impressive graphics, a little extra gory, and fun to play online against others. I spent the rest of my night there. We eventually played 4 player basketball which also had extremely nice graphics.
I'm guessing I have these feelings cause all I got to play was Wii sports, which wasn't that impressive of a game, more like a demo of the wiimote, but still, I had the most fun with the XBox 360s...

Wii vs XBox360

  • for the cost - the 360 better be pretty good. what does it run - like 400 bucks?

on a side note, i love reading about all the new consoles, but i know the odds are i wont own any of them. based on my history thus far, the next console will be the thing after whatever is after what's out now. (that's clear right?)
  • 1) this validates that you are infact NOT just a fanboi, but a gamer. First and formost. Doesn't matter what it is, if its fun, you're down with it. You should be proud at your lack of BS/pride ;) (Sorry to get all zen on ya there)

    2) I remember having fun with multiplayer on the original xbox; and I hear that xbox live is something they got right. I'm not sure if the PS2 really has this and if the PS3 will.

    • If you want flashy graphics, and 300 games that let you run around and kill people from all over the world in different settings, then the 360 is where it's at. Don't get me wrong, I like that. I just ended my year subscription to Xbox live and I've been playing Halo 2 like mad with the headset, talking shit to people all over the world as I blasted them into giblets.

Now if you want a fun, innovative, frivolous (well not always, I've seen money on the table more than once), bunch of friends getting toge

I just want more KAtamari Damacy games.. and a God of War or two couldn't hurt.

Oh, and I want to finish that damn slient hill4. On easy. /It's actually really hard!
        • I liked God of War, and I enjoy the Silent Hill series. I forgot to write that my neighbor and I were discussing the network ability of the Wii. They keep unlocking features. I added SiliconJesus to my Wii Friends the other day and last night I went to the Mii Channel. This Mii fell out of the sky, bounced a couple times and got up and started walking around. I clicked on him to see where he came from and it was SJ's Mii!
          • The Jeebus has landed! All hail ZOD!

I generally like the Wii. I've nearly beat Zelda (I have the last Mirror piece to get, then on to the boss battles), and my son and I play Wiisports nightly. I've recieved Mii's from trmj/buffer, arb, and a whole bunch of folks from my car club. I'm past the the point of being excited by first person shooters anymore. I like puzzles and stories (and always have). I split my time between Zelda, Final Fantasy XII and World of Warcraft.

            I may get a 360 down the road. T

how does god of war 2 compare to the original?
          • by mekkab ( 133181 )
I dunno, I haven't played it yet! (heck, I didn't know it was out!)

But the original had a FRICKIN BUG in the Final-Final battle; if you fought in the middle of the arena the whole damn thing just froze.

            That sucked.

So as long as it's better than that, it's probably great!

/Loves God of War just as much as I hate Devil May Cry.
            //Go figure that one!

it wasn't until i read your reply today that i noticed your little shout out in the subject line. i'm so slow. or maybe i've been listening so long i just assume that's the correct spelling.

even wierder, i love god of war but have never even played devil may cry. i've talked to others with your sentiment, though. you're not alone in your opinion.

Actually, I think I spelt it with an extra 't', but you'll have that...

Don't play any of the Devil may Crys. Just don't friggin' do it. If it was done right, it woulda been God Of War.

I'll admit, the 360 does have a lot of "more of the same". And I have mixed feelings about it - while I like to see more games to choose from rather than less, I like variety, and there needs to be more of that. There just aren't that many "different" games to choose from, when compared to the number of FPS, racing, and sports games. Viva Pinata seems to be really the only seriously different type of game on the 360 right now, at least in the retail games (but it is a ton of fun) . Xbox Live Arcade does
        • Live got networking down, pat. Which is why I believe the battle between consoles will shift from XBox vs PS2 to XBox360 vs Nintendo. Microsoft may just eliminate Sony by coming out with a similar system faster, has just as good graphics, and already has the networking foundation. But, as of right now, XBox 360 and the Wii are apples and oranges... nothing really to compare. I thought the 'fun' factor would give the Wii the huge advantage, but I would rather play Gears of War than Wii sports (maybe afte

I lined up at 3AM this morning to try to snag a Wii. No such luck. Only 18 consoles, and a steady stream of people turned away. At 3AM, parking lot was at least half full. Apparently you had to have been camping out since yesterday afternoon.

But you would have been about 3rd or 4th in line for the PS3s they had. One should be able to walk in and get one when the store opens. Anyways, no comment on how good the Wii is - but it's certainly in high demand.
