Journal trmj's Journal: I give you 10

The Game.

On a completely unrelated note, for a better music recommender than last.fm (which has been pretty god-awful), try Pandora, made by the people who did the Music Genome Project.

Edited to clear up the difference in topics.

  • Yeah - TIME TO PLAY THE GAME!! [seeklyrics.com]

Oh wait. You're talking about that rap dude and not Motorhead, aren't you.

    Hm. Sorry about that.

It's all about the game and how you play it
All about control and if you can take it

Nope, I mean the game called The Game. Odd though that there's a rapper of the same name, since I just set up a new station on Pandora with Jurassic 5 and (hed) P.E. This thing's great for picking what I like out of the music, it just started playing Dido on the new station after realizing I like the melodies both rap groups present instead of the rap itself.

MOTORHEAD! The greatest band in the world! Have the new CD 'Kiss of Death' playing on the iPod right now!

Kiss of Death (new album) is great, but Inferno from a couple of years ago just rules. Best disc in years.

          GET IT NOW!

  • I like last.fm but by finding neighbors, talking to people, and seeing what they're listening to. That's how I finally got off my ass and bought me some Gregor Samsa and Red Sparowes (both of which have been good. Great in the case of the latter). I found a disc by Atom Heart going as Senor Coconut which he does salsa covers of Kraftwerk songs. Just watching what other people listen to. I like the personal selections of people actually listening to what they listen to.
  • Been there.
    Love that. [slashdot.org]

You do indeed win, by many months. One thing I've already noticed about it is I need to keep what I like in a station clear from what I like about other stations (different music for different moods, ya know?). It's a bit tough, and causes some really odd recommendations. I think I'm getting the hang of it though.
      • I did pretty much the same thing, and sorted my artists by genre. I think that goes against the whole principle of the music genome project. That's how I think about my music, so it's a hard habit to break.

Just for fun, I have a giant station with all the artists I like, understandably the recommendations are quite varied. The tone of the station is pretty much based on the thumbs up and thumbs down of the songs they first picked.

On the eighth day, God created FORTRAN.
