This may be a silly question to ask on slashdot, but here goes. "How do you stay on top of technology?"
Technology of any field changes often enough that any technologist needs to be proactive in keeping on top of his field, lest his erstwhile knowledge be nothing more than last-year's news, and the people relying on him for his techyness be dissapointed that he simply is no longer on top of his field.
Whether it's the latest in hardware or software, versions or prices, or simply what is popular, it can take a great deal of time to realize what is going on, and then actually keep up with it. Slashdot (and Digg, et al) aggregate quite a bit, but also require constant reading (missing a day may miss the "important" news).
So, how do you stay on top of it all, and how much time do you devote to it?

There are usually online communities and/or news sites with very specific focus on individual technologies. You are probably best off with the one site that comes closest to being targeted exactly at

That's half of it. The other is something "locking" what's new until it is updated, so someone who comes late to the game can see what he missed.
What i want specifically is hardware and to a lesser extent OSS software. Do you know of a site that simple lists the basics?

What I used to do was use the search page [slashdot.org], but not put in any keywords so that it would simply list all stories, in all sections. The problem, of course, was that it only lists 30 stories at a
