Journal WolfElvendar's Journal: Reincarnation and living in forgetfulness 7

There are times when I wonder, "Why do we not remember past lives?" Wouldn't that help us to get along better in this life? Then along comes a reminder as I struggle with an issue of the past, or bad habits that I have so much trouble shaking. Now, what if I had all the problems of this life and all past ones dogging me day in and out? Not sure sanity would win out.

There are times when I have sought answers to questions where I have had SOME memories pop up from other lives. Normally this happens when I am deeply seeking to answer why I have problems or attachments that I can't understand. One example is I used to have a horrible fear of spiders. I mean terrible and unfashionable fear. If no one was around I might jump up on a table and scream. If someone were around, I would fight the fear out of pride, but still acted nuts. After a while I received a memory of a past life where I was bitten by a black widow, and went through that horrible pain. All of a sudden the fear was nowhere near as bad. I still don't like spiders so much, but I can be around them. I just ask them to stay out of sight in my house or at least near the ceiling in the corners.

Times like today I feel a bit melancholy. I think about things in my past that were either painful, or of which I feel regret. It lets me know why God blesses us with ignorance of our past lives. Many lifetimes of memory can be a heavy weight if you are not spiritually advanced enough to separate yourself from your past actions and karma. I still wish I could remember good things and spiritual advancements. I know we carry some habits and tendencies to our next life, good and bad. It is nice when you find a place where you feel comfortable in spiritual practice and good habits, and can figure out how to fight off the bad ones. I just wish I didn't feel like there were so many things I was learning over again. Seems like I have worked through many problems over and over, life after life. Maybe that is why I feel so darned old, spiritually many times. I want off this wheel, but it's not all bad. I keeps me striving to make this life my last one on this plane. Maybe I will make it.

  • the object not being transcendence, but consubstantiation?

I'm not trying to be snarky. The question is not one of remembering answers, but one of accepting their lack.

for example, if you are neglected as a child you cannot make up that lack as an adult, you can only learn to have enough, learn not to need as much, learn to be whole. You do not get where you are getting by feeding a void, but by filling it. Wouldn't that be the same for any 'next time'?

And that isn't going to happen with spiritual answers, o
    • Well, this left me a bit confused.

My first question is that I did not understand your use of the word consubstantiation. It is the concept that after consecration the bread and wine ARE the body and blood used in communion ritual in the protestant church. I check this one out a bit in three different dictionaries because I was confused and found no other meaning for the word. Guess I just couldn't understand what you were trying to say.

On the main point, it wasn't that I felt I had to remember, but relea
      • that was NOT a snipe.

I was reading up on DBT and integration exercises and thinking about people i care about who are dealing with tough stuff on a regular basis. It was a respectful set of thoughts and i thought you knew me better than that.

Consubstantiation is something being two things at once, entirely substance and entirely sacred, and the body of christ is a good example, and so is your life... ah, never mind. I give up. I'm destined to be misunderstood by those i care about and anger them by saying w
        • Something being misunderstood is just an opportunity to practice communication skills :P Laguage is such a poor tool to communicate with, but it's the best we have. Besides, you made me pull out a dictionary. There are few people capable of that, so it's a good thing.
  • Have you ever seen Defending Your Life [imdb.com]?

There's a scene where newly deceased can go to special booths and view past lives.
    • I haven't watched this, but it sounds interesting. If I had the opportunity to use a deviece like that i'm not sure if it would be a good or bad thing, then again, if it were available, maybe it is intended for us to use, or for those to use that make the choice to. "All is as it is supposed to be."

If all else fails, lower your standards.
