In a few weeks, I will be going camping for the first time in a couple years.

I actually like camping-- setting up the tent, sleeping in a bag on the ground... It really helps me appreciate my bed at home. :)

Seriously though, I like camping. It gives me time away from Life's problems, even if it's only for a little while.

I'll be gone the first week in August, so don't worry if I don't reply to anything in that period. (I really don't think anyone would really notice, but I would like to think there are a few that would.)

  • I like camping - however, my wife does not. So I haven't been in two years. I do have a friend that plans a week long trip once a year to Hume Lake. [wikipedia.org] (picture here) [mac.com]

    Last time I was there, a black bear wandered through camp - all the kids around got kind of excited, which made the bear pick up the pace to get the heck out of there. ;-)

    Anyway, the smell of the forest is great, and the camping trip is planned for the week after summer vacation, to cut down on crowding. Very nice.

    3. its an excuse to just hang around and do nothing without feeling guilty about it

    Of course, its also hell on your nails, but thats another story.

  • The envy is all mine, sir! ;-) Camping is terrific, too bad my she-boss thinks different... she is more of the en-suite bathroom kind. In a few years I'll try to go with the oldest (now 5) to a nearby camping site for some macho fun! Hmmm, can't wait!

      I can understand that. There are bathrooms with running water (even showers!) where I'm going. I wouldn't dream of trying to do business in a trough. I need a shower to wake up, as I am not a "morning" person.

        Well I consider cooking in the open on an open fire a pretty macho event for a 8 yro kid! Live fire, to cook food, instead of that fancy elektricity...
