Journal LordBodak's Journal: Observations 9

  • BMWs do odd and not terribly amusing things when the battery is dying.
  • BMW batteries are heavy.
  • Warranties that cover alternators are quite nice.
  • Dealers that provide loaner cars are even better.
  • Driving a brand new Camry for a day leads one to wonder "how the hell do they sell so many of these?"

Not only BMWs... Pretty much every car that's packed with electronics.

If the loaner car happens to be a Ford Focus, you might think otherwise... I was loaned a Focus from a dealership when my Jetta blew its instrument cluster, and I thought I was not going to make it home in that bucket 'o bolts. It sounded like the front axle was about to eat itself.

    • Very true. I had a 2007 Camry with less than 3000 miles on the clock. Booooooring car. No power, crappy brakes... not what I expected from a new car. But it did have bluetooth hands-free, and that was pretty cool. Now I'm gonna have to spend the money to get the BMW bluetooth integration.

back when i got my porsche, and i had to bring it in for oil changes (which would take all day) the dealer wouuld give me a loaner, typically it was a bmw 5 series.

yeah, they figured it eased the separation anxiety a little.
    • yeah, and then i'd get to laugh at you for 3 days while you bitched about having to drive the BMW.

IIRC, it would go something like this:

blinder: THAT'S another thing! The stupid steering is all-

      solemn: *HAHAHAHAAAAAAAA*

blinder: and it's the wrong colour-

      solemn: *giggle* *snerk* *HAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAA*

blinder: Yeah, laugh it up. I know, it's silly, but...

      solemn: *quick breath* HAAAHAAAHAAAHAAHAAAAAA

blinder: *sigh* yeah, i guess i can see your point.
    • They have told me before that normally I would get a BMW loaner, but since this was an emergency drop-off (cause the alternator light was on and they squeezed me in), they had to pull a Toyota from the lot next door.
