Journal Zeriel's Journal: Job Opening 7

Attention jobseekers in the Central Pennsylvania area! If you need a junior sysadmin position, I might well be able to hire you in the next two weeks.

Linux knowledge strongly required.
Windows desktop administration required.
Hardware assembly and testing skills are a bonus.
No experience required if you have a related degree and can show me you know what you're doing.

Downside? I think we'll probably only be offering 30k/yr to start. And you get a pager. But for the Bellefonte area, that gets you a comfortable 950 sq ft apartment for your wife and two cats, at least if you're me three years ago.

The short version is that I'm interim manager and likely to become full-time manager.

Send your resume and anything else relevant to sholes@athertonia.org, or comment here if you have any questions.

  • GIMME GIMME GIMME! :)

My resume is on the way.

I already have an apartment in State College, but I can be persuaded to move.

    • Oh, I'll be in Bellefonte this afternoon anyways (in suit and tie) from 1 to 3pm. I have to go to the courthouse to sign some documents and finalize some previous issues. If you want to meet up for lunch at noon, just call my cell phone number (it's on my resume). It'd suggest dinner, but I have a hockey game at 6:30.

      • Honestly, we're still in first stage. When I get your resume I'll print it and add it to the stack.

This iMHO is the best kinda company for a linux dork. Sure, the pay's not as great, but the State College/Bellefonte area is cheap as hell and we have something like a 2-1 or 3-1 computer to employee ratio (40-50 linux servers, 25 employees)

We do precision ag and weather forecasting.

I'll get back to you when I find out from our HR guy how many people I can interview.
        • ok, Thanks for considering me. I'm not a huge linux dork. I run my own MythTv box, but that's minimal knowledge. My forte is much more into systems and network management ... but I'm desperate for a job in this area. :)

30k isn't great, but it beats the snot out of the 12k I'm making right now as a delivery driver. :)

ps. the offer for lunch still stands. I used to be a big Schnitzel's fan ... but that's kinda out of the question.
          • Well, bone up on the Linux dorkness. If you pass to the interview there will be a written test. =P

In all seriousness, if you can run a mythTV box and install the OS, and build your own hardware, I can probably work with you.

I don't know where we are in the process yet, but as I said, the company is ZedX, and if/when we decide to interview yah you'll be getting a phone call, most likely from Duane Reese (our office manager/HR guy) but it's 90% likely the first interview I'll be conducting solo.

            The starting
    • Shucks, and here I was ready to pull up stakes.

      • SLASHDOT DEATHMATCH!

FIGHT! FIGHT FOR AVERAGE-PAY TECHNICAL EMPLOYMENT! ...I got nothin'.

Of course it's lame, I'm trying to look like I'm yelling. Stupid filter.
