It's probably not that they hate families, but, taking my sister as an example, and like-minded Liberals, she tends to think of human beings as an infestation on poor old Mother Earth, and if only we weren't around to pollute and wrestle away habitat, the animals and the earth could exist in their natural happy state. So since "evils" such as urban sprawl and emissions from all the solo commuters are the result of more and more people, they see overpopulation as a huge problem.

You know this as a fact because she stated it plainly or is this was you surmise based on a series of beliefs she has claimed?

If true, it definitely leads more into the "culture of death" thinking. That is to say the world would be better off without us ergo humankind should die. I was merely shooting for the notion of a culture that is neutral towards life while being suicidal itself.

She's never mentioned "Mother Earth" to me (although she does take a hybrid Pagan/bastardized-Christian religious view, including believing that animals have souls and will go to heaven, and that basically "all good people" will go to heaven, including practicing homosexuals, which is not exactly Christian orthodoxy).
