Journal Scrameustache's Journal: Trolls are Overrated 6

The "overrated" mod as first mod.

I've been getting lots of those recenty, and I've been told it is because the metamoderations never review the "overrated/underrated" mod. So people with a sad agenda (personnal grudge or ideological mindlessness, insuficient data to tell) get to keep doing it without being stopped by an already established filter.
I speak my mind, and therefore I've watched my enemies list grow. But the low lives that lurk on slashdot have found a perticularly cowardly way of attacking people now it seems.
I got to admit: It is somewhat annoying.

It's just another way for petty loosers to make other people's lives just that little bit more incovenienced I supposed.

Like that "fan" (stalker) of mine that goes to post uninspired replies detailing bodily functions to post I've made a couple days prior (presumably to avoid getting modded down while the thread is still read by people with mod points, the sneaky coward). I wonder how someone becomes so pathetic... to have a life so empty that you actually spend time harassing strangers, karma-whoring to have mod points and that lil' +1 so people will see your sad attempts at getting attention through crude, mindless profanity.

I understand thugs: getting hit makes you want to hit others. But I have no way to relate to this kind of behaviour. It's so... small.

Trolls are Overrated

  • I too have noticed the increasing number of overrated scores that I've been getting. Underrated has also become a lot more common for me.

I never was scored badly before a few months ago. I'd be quietly ignored or modded up. I got modded down to troll once, but that was warranted (being an ass, I was). Lately I've been able to watch comments take a short trip up to +5 funny or insightful before getting knocked back down to 1 because of a bunch of overrated's.

The silver lining is that people are noticing th

I get that too. I'm not complaining about justifiably being karma-whipped though, and the up and down is annoying, but different. My beef is with "overrated" applied to a post that was not modded up yet.

I even emailed Taco about it, he said he'd look into it. My take on
  • I'm the fan that posts to your replies.

I don't use the strategy that you suggest I use, and it hardly takes me any time at all to insult you occasionally. In fact, I find it quite hard to pick at what you say because we have nearly IDENTICAL views on things, from technological to political. I just think you're a jerk and a hypocrite.

I'm no hypocrite, I know what I am and I make no secret of it. In fact, it's my nickname. That's not street boy bravado, I'm a muthafucka. I am scum, not cool. So what? Does i
  • I don't know how you feel about tattling, but systematic Overrated moderations would seem to be a clear abuse of the system. This journal [slashdot.org] seems to indicate success with just reporting it.
    • Ignoring them also works as well. I get 'overrated' moderations all time time, but I post so many great comments that downmods don't matter in the slightest. Our esteemed host in this journal might believe that I use moderation as a weapon, but actually I use my sharp wit and expansive 4-letter-word vocabulary. I actually NEVER moderate people down, only up.

It's just too easy to get a new account to post under. I have 5 accounts myself, all with excellent karma. Each one has a different personality too...

      Thanks, I tattled.

And I see the stalker has preemptively denied (trolls, they think they're so clever) being the one modding me down... so I'll assume he's the one doing it. Makes sense, there's a correlation in timeframe, and he must karma-whore for a reason after all. Getting mod points to abuse would be a goal to work

If all else fails, lower your standards.
