Jack Spine writes "The security for the United Nations' peacekeeping logisitics system was "not secure" for much of 2008, according to a report in ZDNet UK. The "Galileo Inventory Management System", used in UN peacekeeping operations, used an insecure protocol that was liable to hacking, said a UN internal report. There were no safeguards in place to check whether communications had been hacked, there was no officer in charge of information security, threat alerts weren't monitored, and the disaster recovery facilities were on the same campus as the Galileo hosting facilities."
