An anonymous reader writes "Mathematicians seem to have a lot of trouble with shoelaces. For the last century or two, they've been trying to figure out how many different ways you can tie your shoelaces, but mostly, they've figured out it's a really hard problem. They're finally now having some real success using new techniques developed in the last decade. The techniques may eventually also allow them to understand all the possible shapes three- and four-dimensional spaces can have. Cool video, too!" Link to Original Source
