Suggestions for Motherboard Supporting K6/K6-2 1

seymour asks "I have recently been having various minor troubles with my motherboard and I am considering an upgrade. I am looking for suggestions of motherboards that will accept the K6/233 CPU (and the K6-2 or higher I guess), has an AGP slot, and takes DIMMs for memory. Also wanted is a chipset that Linux supports well for UDMA hard drives. Future upgradability to a K6-2 and a 100 MHz bus speed would be a plus, but not necessary. "

  • Well it seems like one of the more popular boards is the FIC VA503+. As for my problems I was having with my motherboard, I think the problem was my CPU overheating due to a crappy heatsink/fan. Too bad there isn't anything decent around town to buy. After I underclocked my K6/233 to 200 MHz all my problems stopped (well, in Linux at least, I deleted Windows a couple of weeks ago; and I haven't bothered to mess around with the sound again). It works, but naturally I'd like to get the most out of my system as I possibly can. Hopefully in a few months when I have the cash to spare I can get a new motherboard, case, CPU, and (PC-100) memory. I should have enough spare parts lying around to make up the rest for another box on my LAN - which I finally set up just today, rather easily I might add. That way my roommate won't get mad at me if I reboot to Windows to play a game!

Thanks for all of the help. Long live (Ask) Slashdot!
