The Yard Cafe (Score:1)
The Yard Cafe is the local pub in Marpole. It's basic, it's safe, the beer is cheap and decent, and there's parking and transit around. If folks want to get there earlier, we can bump the start time up. I won't head over until my kid's in bed. A lot happens in 15 years.

I have another event that day in New West, so I hope I can make it for at least part of the evening.
Contest for lowest user number at the party? ;)

Looking on Google street view, I don't see the Yard Cafe - would it be where the insurance, currency exchange, or computer shop presumably used to be?
Street view [google.com] shows those businesses between the grocery store & Masonic temple.

It turns out that I probably can't make it. I'm arbitrarily appointing Maow as the host, though there are not real duties that come with that. I hope it works out.
I'm here - a bit late due to the bus being 5 minutes early, leaving me watch it pass from half a block away. The next bus being full and stopping every block, grrr.
SO, where is everybody?!?
I'm having a beer, having no T-shirt, and no nerds to ... geek with.
Fuck.
It's 21:39 now, been here ~20 minutes (since 21:18), and will finish beer & leave.
Very disappointed.

Hi Dr J,
Too bad you couldn't make it - I was looking forward to meeting some fellow Slashdotters.
Anyway, did they send up any T-shirts? I'm pathetic enough to think having one would be kinda cool...

Shittiest "party" ever (Score:2)
Yes, I'm bitter.
I've spent 2 1/2 hours, mostly outside in rain / damp 6C weather while in transit, got to a pub with a few groups of drunken regulars but no Slashdotters, had a beer, waited, left at 22:00 hoping to get home on original transit ticket. Spent 20 minutes waiting for bus, ticket expired, fuck.
That was a waste of my fucking time.
And, I got no T-shirt, and presumably someone got 5 T-shirts.
Again, "fuck!"

Well, I had intended to write something about the most boring man in Vancouver showing up to the party, hence it sucked, but the 55-60 minute trip home soured my sense of humour rather dramatically.
I saw on Twitter that Denver had an impressive 8 or so people seated at table. I'm disappointed Vancouver only had 5 registered.
